Does Saturday = A Lazy Day For You?

For most of us working a normal Monday to Friday 9-5 job, Saturday is our day to recoup. After a long work week wanting to veg on the couch is totally normal. Between deadlines and crazy schedules plus trying to fit in exercise, prepare healthy foods, maintain a household and have time for family and friends, no wonder all we want to do is nothing!! Weekends can be tough simply because we're out of the normal routine but they should not be a free pass to eat whatever you want and not exercise because you're been "good" all week.

Enjoy a few chapters from your book, get a little shopping done, spend time with the kids but don't forget to take time for your health. Learn to incorporate simple things like getting out a for stroll in this crisp Winter air or try out a new "good for you" recipe. Just stay accountable and make yourself proud. You ARE WORTH IT!

Just wanted to be the pain in the butt that reminds you to do your absolute best today!

PS. Did we mention how excited we are to have our Online Community officially open?! Get over there to mingle with your team members (and lovely competitors!)

I am on vacay, so today will be sightseeing...lots of activity.. but a normal Saturday? I veg all day, and tend to send the hubs for FAST food. Here's to using the weekends to relax in healthier ways!!!

Well put Lynn. Saturday is my one non-exercise day so I usually spend it cleaning the house. Sunday after our long run, I like to plan out the meals for the week and even try to pull together some dishes for the freezer (chili, pumpkin loaf etc) for those days where you need something quick and NOT fast fod.

Love it , Lynn. Thank so much for the reminder!

Thanks for the nudge Lynn. Like Jen said, Sunday is my lazy day. I go to the grocery store int he morning and then it's usually football and other TV until dinner time.

But instead of watching TV all day, I need to move. Maybe the kiddo and I can go for a walk between games (luckily football is almost over!). Or if it's too cold we can go to the mall and walk.

Again, thanks for the nudge and motivation!

Thanks for the push to get up and moving. My Sat. mornings are definitely lazy, but then I work on the house stuff so I do get moving. However, I am one of those who doesn't believe in weekend exercising and I need to work on that. Thanks for the reminder!!

I'm healthier on weekends, believe it or not!

I used to be a Weekend Couch Potato, but these days I like to get outside during my free time and skate/walk/whatever. Weekends are also the time when I'm free to try new recipes or just make meals that are too time-consuming to prepare during the week.

Great post!

Thanks for the great advice, may use it as my Daily Diet Tip today.
It's a great reminder to move on the weekend. Saturdays aren't so bad, but Sundays....they are a day of rest, ya know.....

I work shift work and my days off I always try to do exercise because I can't be guaranteed to get there after a 12-hr or longer shift... especially if I am late leaving work; therefore, I need to maximize my time off. I do love Saturdays as a relaxing day... but for me, walking with the fiance, snowshoeing or skating or hitting the gym... those all count as relaxation for me!

I'm like Vanessa - I have a dance class on Saturday mornings so always start off the weekend with exercise. But weeknights I'm often tired from work or have other commitments.

I have to be very vigilant with what and how much I eat on the weekend, and especially Saturday!! It's my WI day. I WI in the morning and sometimes I get that feeling of, "Well, I can have a treat, it's WI day, my WPA has reset", etc. This is such a slippery slope, for me! A treat or something more extravagant than I would have had throughout the week, but I have to be careful that one "something" doesn't turn into cake, chocolate bars, ice cream, etc. I'm easily swayed when it comes to treats and the weekend, sometimes.

I find it helps that I am being more strict with my tracking. Before I might not have tracked for 6/7 days for the week! Now I track 6/7 days with that odd occasion when I have been so busy I didn't write anything down. It's especially when I don't track that I don't do well, because I am thinking, "Oh I can keep a running total in my head", but it's like what my leader said today - "when I write it down, it's like I've eaten it twice! I am watching very closely and I'm taking ownership of it." which is so true.

But it's SO chilly here today, that I likely will not go out very much, not even to the gym. I try to go more through the week, so I keep that balance between work and sanity :P

Sorry this became a very long bloggy response, but there it is. Saturday is my veg out day. It's NOT my "Oh good, now I have more time to eat the cupboards off the hinges" day. It CAN'T be. It's too dangerous.

My problem with Saturday is that it usually includes a birthday party, a baby shower, a christening, a wedding or some other event that means leaving my house and my kitchen. In my kitchen I am safe. In any other kitchen I am not!

And can I also say that I really enjoyed thinking about and answering a question like this. It really helps me reflect on things related to WW and why I do the things I do. :)

Keep 'em coming! It's like a WW meeting or something and we can have a big discussion about it and personally respond! Love it! :)

Heck no! Saturday is active day! Special olympics practice and some type of outdoor activity (hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, etc). I love that I have the whole day to do whatever I want, including active things!

I HEART Saturday exercise, mostly because I don't feel the stress of all the other weekly stuff, so it doesn't feel so forced! ;o) Now Monday exercise on the other hand...!
